On a sunny, dry Friday 6 September in Mick Neville Park the Mungret St. Pauls U-16 Footballers who topped their group took on St. Kierans who were placed in forth in the Semi final while the other semi final between Newcastle West and Fr. Casey’s took place on a separate. pitch. The last time these two sides met in the group stages, Mungret St. Pauls had a comfortable win and today was no exception as Mungret St. Pauls led the whole way.
Mungret St. Pauls and St. Kierans scored their first points in the first 4 minutes of the game but Mungret St. Pauls proved to be the stronger team as they were to go on and score another ten points and four goals while St .Kierans scored only 2 points in the first half with both coming from frees. Mungret St. Pauls had 7 of their forwards score in the first half with some very good scores, there were great runs which went onto score. It was not all scores for Mungret St. Pauls as at one stage one of our players nearly took out an umpire with a misdirected shot, there were also shots where the ball hit the uprights and off the goal posts.
