On a lovely sunny Saturday, 14 September Mungret St. Pauls hosted an U-10 hurling tournament, it is in its sixth year to honor our president, Pa O’Brien. We were delighted to welcome 118 U-10 players to our pitches from Ballybrown, Kilmallock, JK Brackens and Newtown Shandrum and Mungret St. Pauls. We were delighted to have 41 boys in our red and white colours. Our Mungret St. Pauls Red team found themselves in a highly skilled grouping where they played JK Bracken Blue, Kilmallock and Newtown Shandrum Green where they were unfortunate to lose which saw them in the D final against Newtown Shandrum Yellow. The Mungret St. Pauls White team were in a competitive group also which matched them up against JK Bracken Black, Ballybrown and Newtown Shandrum Yellow, this team had wins against each of these teams which matched them up against Newtown Shandrum Green in the A final. Our Red team proved too strong for the Newtown Shandrum Yellow team and they won the D final. The A final was a tight game with both sides getting in great scores, unfortunately for Mungret St. Pauls White it was the visitors that won the Pa O’Brien trophy.
Congratulations to all our players who put in a super effort into their game, well done to our players who received the most improved player – Charlie Tobin and Shane Duggan. A very special word of Thanks to Vinnie Gleeson and all our coaches, the refs, parents who helped fed and water the visitors, Helen McKeogh for her continuous help and Kieran Bolger who helped take photos on the day.
