In Mungret St. Pauls clubhouse on Thursday 2 May we welcomed the U-13 and U-15 Football, U-14, U-15 and U-16 hurling teams to the clubhouse along with special guest for the night, 9 time all Ireland winner and Kilkenny hurler Tommy Walsh, representing Bord na nOg was Mary Hassett. The night ran very well, in Tommy’s speech he mentioned the upcoming exams and how a GAA player should approach them, he said that most parents would tell you to cut back on the sport and do more study “ I say NO”, balance them out, stay doing both, use your sport to take a break from studying. The top quote on the night- GAA is like a wardrobe, whatever you put into it you get back out of it.
Tommy also advised the players to practice what your good at, don’t admire the guy who is able to take frees and try be like him, you may not be a free taker but a great player who can catch the high ball, practice catching the high ball and you can lay if off to another player, the game is a team sport and is best when made of different skills. The club presented Tommy with various gifts; he was presented with Cobi club clothing items, a gift suggested by Pa O’Brien, a bag of sliotars for the team Tommy coaches in Kilkenny and as Tommy enjoys a cup of tea a hand crafted tea cosy. The medals were presented and the night finished off with a question and answers before the tea and coffee was served.
We would like to thank everyone on the committee for organizing this event and for everyone who attended on the night.
